Midtown Manhattan on a sunny day.

New York is divided into five boroughs. They are Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island. Manhattan is the most well-known of them, notably for its tourist attractions and busy city life.

The population of the city is eight and a half million, making it the largest city in America. The metropolitan area, though, which encompasses parts of the adjacent states of Connecticut and New Jersey, has 20.3 million inhabitants, one of the largest on Earth.
With a vibrant economy, New York is the leading city on the planet. It is the only one of two cities whose gross domestic product surpasses a trillion dollars–the other being Tokyo. No wonder why it is home to the most millionaires and billionaires in the world.
Before the Covid–19 pandemic, over 60 million tourists visited the city yearly, an average of 1.25 million a week, or almost 180,000 a day. To get around, most tourists and residents use NYC’s subway, one of the largest, most efficient of all modern, large cities. It is so efficient that it gets you to your destination faster than a car.
