- I’d like to buy a book.
- What’s the name of the book?
- I can’t remember…
- OK. Who’s the author?
- I… I don’t remember either.
- Tell me what you know about the book.
- It’s black…
Located at 250 W 40th Street, right across the street from the New York Times Building and near the New York Port Authority Bus Terminal, the Drama Book Shop is the largest book shop specializing in the performing arts in the city, and some say in the world.

The first thing you’ll notice when you walk in is that the book shop looks much bigger on the inside than the impression you have from the outside. You’ll also notice how friendly the staff is, and will assist you promptly. Whether you know the books you want to buy or you just have an idea of the books you’ll need, walk to the back of the store where the information desk is located and they’ll be very happy to help you out. I once saw a lady mentioning the color of a book cover and not much of the book itself, she didn’t know the name of the book or its author, and it took a few seconds for an assistant to figure out which book she was looking for.
